An ABC powder fire extinguisher is a multi-purpose extinguisher and is one of the most common extinguishers to keep on hand.
A powder extinguisher sprays a fine chemical powder (commonly Mono Ammonium Phosphate) that blankets the fire and suffocates it.
Powder extinguishers are effective for Class A, B and C fires. Since powder is not an electrical conductor and breaks the chain reaction in liquid or gas fires, it is also suitable for electrically started fires.
