Portable Dry Chemical Powder Based (Stored Pressure Type) Fire Extinguisher

An ABC powder fire extinguisher is a multi-purpose extinguisher and is one of the most common extinguishers to have on hand.

A powder extinguisher sprays a very fine chemical powder composed most commonly of monoammonium phosphate (MAP). This blankets the fire and suffocates it.

Powder extinguishers are effective for Class A, B and C fires. Since powder is not an electrical conductor and can break the chain reaction in liquid or gas fires, it is also suitable for electrically started fires.
